Modeling and simulation from the nano to the meso-scale of ferromagnetic materials.

Abstract:

The most used model, the micromagnetism, for ferromagnetic materials has been introduced by W.-F. Brown in the 60's. This model, dynamic or static, describe the ferromagnetic materials as continuous materials and provide an energy and a dynamic equation, the Landau and Lifchitz system.

The main goal of this project would be to understand the mathematical model for the atomistic scale in order to perform an asymptotic analysis from this scale to the meso-scopic scale. Thanks to that study, we want to introduce, in the micromagnetism model, the temperature influence and the sensitivity of the damping coefficient of the Landau Lifchitz system to the dynamic of the magnetization.

The work could be divided in two main parts:

  • A first part of modeling and simulation of the atomistic scale in ferromagnetic materials.

  • A second part could be dedicated to the asymptotic analysis of the model in order to recover a modified micromagnetism model.
